Thailand’s most decorated player Boonsak Ponsana showed a strong character in Men’s Singles first round when he stamped his mark over Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki at the Li Ning China Open 2012 on Wednesday, November 14, in Shanghai.
The un-seeded Ponsana, who is currently World Number 20 in Men’s Singles world ranking, played with complete control in his shots and easily showed exit to Wing Ki who has been positioned at number 21 in the world.
Thai shuttler showed a dominating performance on court by taking the bird early form all areas and he did not show any respect to his Hong Kong challenger all the way to wind up the match in straight games with a convincing margin.
In the meanwhile, the lower ranked Wing Ki could not survive the hostile attack of Ponsana throughout the battle and he eventually crashed out in the opening round without making an impact in the arena.
Ponsana was confident on court as he played attacking and positive badminton from the opening points of first set and took over the charge of rallies without wasting any time.
The impressive game plan and execution of shots helped Ponsana in maintaining an upper hand over his rival who could not play aggressive game.
Until the end of opening half, it was Ponsana who did not show any mercy to his passionate Hong Kong rival and took a wonderful lead until the one-minute-break.
On the contrary, the lower ranked Wing Ki tried to put up strong resistance against Ponsana but failed to take charge of rallies and remained struggling.
After the break, Thai shuttler continued his smooth run and did not face any resistance from his challenger all the way to grab the game with a 21-13 difference on the board.
In the second game, Wing Ki played better badminton this time as he played with aggression and remained close to his Thai opponent until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Ponsana geared up his speed and took over the control from his rival. He remained successful in taking the second set with a reasonable total of 21-18.
The in-form Ponsana emerged as the winner in the opening round clash with a dominating 21-13 and 21-18 margin on score board.
