Li Ning China Open 2012: Chen Yuekun topples Ivan Sozonov in Men’s Singles first round
Having the home crowd support, China’s Chen Yuekun started his journey in an inspiring fashion as he easily stamped his mark over Russia’s Ivan Sozonov in Men’s Singles first round at Li Ning China Open 2012 in Shanghai, on Wednesday, November 14.
The un-seeded Yuekun, who has been working hard to elevate his position at world stage, proved his worth in the arena by playing positive and aggressive badminton in opening round clash and easily won it in just 20 minutes.
Chinese player showed urgency on court as he did not miss any chance to earn points and remained successful in defeating his Russian challenger in straight games with a killing margin on score board.
On the contrary, Sozonov could not show aggression as he played quivering badminton and remained struggling all the way. He could not create pressure on his local opponent and bowed down to him in a vulnerable manner.
In the opening set, Yuekun showed a great aggression as played with impressive speed and easily took an early lead.
Chinese shuttler did not show any mercy to his opponent as he kept the pace of rallies very high and took a superb lead until the end of opening half.
After the one-minute break, the match proceeded in the similar manner as Yuekun did not let the pace of rallies down and he also remained focused in the arena.
Yuekun remained consistent in employing powerful strokes and managed to grab the opening game of this Men’s Singles contest with a superb 21-13 score on the board.
In the second set, Russian shuttler completely lost his focus in the arena as he could not create any trouble for his Chinese opponent and remained struggling far behind until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Yuekun continued displaying his remarkable skills by keeping a firm control over the pace of rallies and won the second game with a one-sided margin of 21-8.
The lofty Yuekun cheered his home fans by playing with impressive confidence and stamped his mark over Sozonov in straight games with a crushing 21-13 and 21-8 score on the board.
