Li Ning China Open 2012: Juliane Schenk ousts Wang Lin to surge into Women’s Singles quarter-final
Germany’s impressive shuttler Juliane Schenk proved her elevated skills as she reached into Women’s Singles quarter-final after defeating her local rival Wang Lin in round-of-16 encounter at Li Ning China Open 2012 on Thursday, November 15, in China.
The World Number Four Schenk, who is the fifth seed in Women’s Singles draw of the tournament, was in complete control over the pace of rallies in the arena and she did not face any considerable trouble in beating Lin by taking 42 minutes.
German lady employed her vast experience in the arena and remained successful in thrashing her Chinese rival in a smashing fashion by finishing off the match in straight games with a decent total on the board.
On the other hand, Lin could not live up to the expectations of her home fans as she failed to play attacking badminton and eventually lost the match to Schenk in straight sets with a reasonable difference.
The higher ranked Schenk showed a wonderful performance in the opening set when she employed her impressive craft and managed to stay in strong position in opening set.
Until the end of first half, Schenk did not show any sign of confusion and remained confident all the way and took a reasonable lead.
After the mid-game break, the fifth seeded Schenk stayed focused in the arena while playing attacking badminton and maintained the gap on score board.
Schenk continued employing powerful shots and kept her rival moving around throughout the set and took it with a reasonable 21-18 score on the board.
In the second game, Lin played better badminton as she started to take the bird early and stayed close to her higher ranked challenger until the end of first half.
After the break, Schenk geared up her speed in all areas of the court but the score remained equal until 18-18.
At this crucial stage, Schenk employed her experience and managed to score three points in a row to grab the set with a reasonable margin of 21-18.
The in-form Schenk managed to win this battle in straight games with a decent 21-18 and 21-18 score on the board.
