Li Ning China Open 2012: Tine Baun trounces Anastasia Prokopenko in Women’s Singles first round
Denmark’s top shuttler Tine Baun lived up to expectations as she put up strong show in Women’s Singles first round and easily thrashed Russia’s Anastasia Prokopenko at the Li Ning China Open 2012 on Wednesday, November 14, in China.
The World Number Seven Baun, who has been seeded at number six in Women’s Singles draw of China, Open, showed a great character as she played with confidence and managed to register a convincing victory over her Russian opponent in just 30 minutes.
Baun was quite comfortable on court and, showing no sign of pressure of being higher ranked in the arena, remained in commanding position throughout the match and won it in straight sets with a reasonable margin.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Anastasia found a quivering start but she found a good flow in the concluding game of the match and troubled her rival. However, she could not maintain her positive run in ending points and lost the battle to Baun in a reasonable
fashion.
In the starting set, the amazing speed and powerful strokes of Baun favoured her to take control of the pace from opening points and remained in commanding position.
Danish shuttler did not let the pace of rallies down and continued troubling her rival by injecting variations in her shots.
Until the end of first half, the in-form Baun obtained a strong position on board by taking a sufficient lead.
After the break, the underdog Anastasia tried her best but failed to play positive badminton and remained struggling in the arena.
However, Baun stayed confident on court and accurately placed her shots in targeted areas which enabled her to bag the opening set with a huge 21-8 score on the board.
The second game of this contest was thrilling when Anastasia geared up her speed and stayed close to her Danish challenger all the way until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Baun changed her tactics and worked really well at net area which assisted her to win the set with a close 21-19 score on the board.
The sixth seeded Baun finished off this Women’s Singles first round encounter in a reasonable manner with a decent margin of 21-8 and 21-19.
