Li-Ning Victorian International: Ching Chieh Tai beats Yu Chieh Cheng to grab Women’s Singles crown
Chinese Taipei’s spirited young shuttler Ching Chieh Tai made her presence felt as she grabbed Women’s Singles crown after crushing her compatriot Yu Chieh Cheng in final battle of the 2012 Li-Ning Victorian International in Australia, on Saturday, June 30.
The impressive Ching Chieh remained confident and consistent in all of her matches at the Victorian International and also showed her brilliance while playing against her team-mate in the title match and earned glory in an authoritative manner.
Ching Chieh showed her attacking skills on court in opening game and won it easily. She continued her roller-coaster run in the final contest and remained successful in finishing off the second game in the similar fashion and overpowered her country-mate in straight games.
Yu Chieh, on the other hand, was helpless against the perfect play of her in-form opponent as she failed to match the pace of rallies and lost the final battle in two sets with a lopsided margin in just 20 minutes.
In the first game, Ching Chieh played dominating badminton by taking the bird early at net and pushed her rival in all corners.
An impressive deception in Ching Chieh’s strokes earned her a considerable advantage over her compatriot and she took a remarkable lead until the break.
After the one-minute interval, Ching Chieh continued her inspiring performance by taking the bird early and kept her rival moving around. She was at her best on court and wrapped up first game with an amazing margin of 21-14.
In the second set, Yu Chieh geared up her speed at the opening rallies but failed to take lead as her opponent was quick in all areas of court.
Ching Chieh was in complete control and she played with variations in her shots. She was leading on the score board until the mid-game interval.
After the 60-second break, Ching Chieh continued playing aggressive badminton without slowing down her speed and easily grabbed the second set in a sensational manner with a stunning margin of 21-13.
