Li Xuerui becomes Women’s Singles champion of 2013 Indonesia Open – Badminton News
China’s badminton queen, Li Xuerui, ruled the court in final round of Djarum Indonesia Open and won the Women’s Singles trophy after beating Juliane Schenk on Sunday, June 16, 2013.
This 63-minute encounter was staged at the local badminton arena of Jakarta where both finalists kept the audience glued to their chairs till the last shot was played. Though, Li Xuerui finished this tournament in a favourable
manner but it was not an easy win. She had to sweat hard while piling up final figures of 21-16, 18-21 and 21-17.
The Olympic champion Li locked the honour by prevailing in the opening and ending segments of the showdown whereas the German campaigner could win only the second set.
In the first set of the match, the top ranked Chinese shuttler started her campaign with full force and gained an early advantage without any major trouble. She kept moving forward at a steady pace and finished the first half of
the set with a decent total of 11.
After the mid-game break, she injected more intensity in her attack and strengthened her grip over game. She did not sow mercy at any stage of the game and won this crucial set with scoreboard flashing 21-16 total in her favour.
However, she could not maintain her momentum in the following game, as the German campaigner performed exceptionally well and brought the contest to right balance. Juliane Schenk showed her intentions by claiming few back-to-back
points straight away in the beginning.
She capitalised this psychological edge in next couple of rallies and placed a reasonable margin of 11 before the interval. After the mid-game break, both contenders made every effort to oust the opponent but Juliane displayed
better finishing skills. She put a winning margin of 21-18 and setup a nerve-racking decider.
Third set started with few gruelling rallies as both contenders tried hard to establish an immediate lead. They pushed each other in all areas of the court but neither of them could hit the mark before half time.
The latter part of game was dominated by Li Xuerui as she maintained a convincing difference on the points table and claimed the crown with an impressive result of 21-17.
