Li Xuerui outshines Lindaweni Fanetri in Women’s Singles – Sudirman Cup 2013
China’s prime female shuttler Li Xuerui remained invincible in the Level One of Sudirman Cup as she overpowered Lindaweni Fanetri of Indonesia on Thursday, May 23, 2013.
This Women’s Singles tussle prolonged to 43 minutes and both contenders kept the audience intact while piling up the final figures of 21-16 and 21-13.
The Olympic champion Li Xuerui enjoyed an upper hand from very first stroke till the last one. On the other hand, the Indonesian campaigner made every effort to stand tall but luck was not on her side and she had to face a straight-set defeat.
In the opening game of match, Li Xuerui unleashed a series of power packed strokes and put her rival under huge pressure. She did not show mercy in next couple of rallies and doubled her total.
Though Lindaweni showed some spark and bagged few back-to-back points but she could not tip the scale in her favour with this fluctuated performance. She failed to employ an effective counterattack strategy and remained busy just returning her rival’s masterly
crafted strokes.
This passive approach hit her hard in the latter part of the game as Li Xuerui stamped her with a significant lead.
The Chinese shuttler did not play conventional badminton rather she confounded the opposing shuttler with an entirely new game plan. At first, she unleashed a flurry of powerful smashes and pushed her competitor on the back foot. After then, she pocketed
many valuable points with drop net shots.
Li Xuerui won first set of the match with scoreboard flashing 21-16 margin in her favour. She relished full benefits of this psychological advantage in the following game and wrapped this showdown with a straight-set victory.
She started the beating from very first stroke and kept her challenger at the lower end all the way to game point situation. The Indonesian player was no comparison as she could not read her rival’s game and knelt down tamely.
The spirited Chinese campaigner finished first half of the set with a mountainous figure of 11 and then swept the table with an overwhelming total of 21-13.
Her top class performance inspired the other team members and China won this crucial match with 3-2 margin.
