Li Xuerui tames Sun Yu in Women’s Singles semi-final at Singapore Open 2013 – Badminton news
China’s reigning Olympic Champion, Li Xuerui, continued her smooth sailing and stormed into Women’s Singles final after taming her compatriot Sun Yu in semi-final battle of Li Ning Singapore Open 2013 on Saturday, June 22.
The top seeded Xuerui, who is also World Number One in Women’s Singles category, put up spectacular show and she easily ended Sun’s gallant run in the championship by taking just 36 minutes.
The experienced Xuerui was on a completely different level as she played with wonderful ease all the way. She maintained her upper hand over Sun throughout the battle and finished it off with a one-sided 21-13 and 21-11 score on the board.
On the other hand, the spirited Sun failed to prolong her inspiring performance against her higher ranked team-mate. She tried to show her brilliance but failed to crate pressure on Xuerui and went down without even getting close.
The in-form Xuerui started her campaign in a positive fashion as she played composed badminton and remained in complete command of rallies. She dictated her opponent everywhere in the arena by taking the bird early.
Meanwhile, Sun tried to play attacking game in opening rallies but failed to shake the impressive defence of her rival and remained struggling.
The top seed continued her comfortable run without facing any threat from her opponent and took a wonderful lead until the end of opening part.
In the concluding half of first game, Xuerui stayed fully focused and relaxed in her temperament. She did not let her lower ranked challenger to settle down on court and easily won the set with an excellent margin of 21-13.
In the second set, Xuerui continued her superior performance and she tested all of her shots without taking any pressure. She found gaps easily and placed her shots in right areas that enabled her to grab a stunning lead until the break.
After the interval, the impressive Chinese lady showed urgency on court as she geared up her speed and wrapped up the second game with a lopsided margin of 21-11.
In the final of the championship, Xuerui will be up against the winner between her compatriot, Wang Yihan, and Indonesia’s Lindaweni Fanetri.
