Li Xuerui topples Tsz Ka Chan in Women’s Singles quarter-final of German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012
China’s young shuttler Li Xuerui was in smashing form in the Women’s Singles quarter-final when she toppled Hong Kong’s Tsz Ka Chan with a comprehensive margin at German open Grand Prix Gold 2012 in Germany, on Friday, March 2.
Xuerui, who is World Number Six and second seed in Women’s Singles main draw of German Open, stamped her supremacy in the arena by playing remarkable badminton and bagged victory in the quarter-final clash against her lower ranked opponent.
On the other hand, Tsz Ka was clearly lacking the impressive touch in her play and remained struggling in the whole contest.
The higher ranked Chinese did not spend much time in court as she ended the contest in straight games by taking just 26 minutes.
In the first set, Xuerui started her campaign in an incredible way as she did not show mercy to her Hong Kong rival. She remained in wonderful control and dominated the pace of rallies with her impressive craft.
On the other hand, Tsz Ka could not compete against her higher ranked Chinese opponent and also failed to take the bird early from all areas of the court.
Xuerui put up superb show by playing positive and attacking badminton and established a sensational 11-4 lead on the score board.
After the break, Tsz Ka changed her tactics to reduce the deficit but failed as her challenger was everywhere in the court.
Xuerui was in complete control and maintained the difference in the whole concluding part. She took the first set with a fabulous margin of 21-10.
In the second set, Xuerui again dominated the game as she took over the control from the starting points and dictated the pace of rallies.
She did not drop her speed at any stage and remained ahead of her challenger until the end of first half by reaching at 11-4.
After the interval, Xuerui continued her roller-coaster run against her lower ranked opponent and managed to win the set with a completely one-sided 21-8 score on the board.
Xuerui registered victory over Tsz Ka in straight games with a comprehensive margin of 21-10 and 21-8.
In the semi-final showdown, Xuerui will face Singapore's Juan Gu who won her quarter-final fight against Indonesia's Lindaweni Fanetri.
