Li Yongbo, Park Joo Bong reveal their secrets of success in coaching career – Badminton Update
Former badminton greats Li Yongbo of China and Park Joo Bong of Korea are fully aware of their status in field of coaching as they proudly unveiled their trade secrets in front of the world.
Both shuttlers represented their countries as Men’s Doubles experts and they were tagged as “arch-rivals” in 80s but they did not leave this game even after bidding farewell to arena.
At the moment, Yongbo is head coach of China while Joo Bong enjoys full authority as chief coach of Japan.
They have guided these countries to new heights as China is now undoubtedly the powerhouse of badminton while Japan has also proved itself dark horse in race of glory.
The 49-year-old Yongbo made his secret public by telling that he never had dogmatic approach rather he always tried out of the box ideas to bring variety in his craft.
He said, “If I gave it away, then the world would be the same and that won’t be too nice for us. We can’t go on doing the same thing. One must always be receptive to change.”
Chinese shuttlers reached at peak under his supervision as they hold World champion titles in all five categories.
They stamped their supremacy by lifting Men’s and Women’s trophies in recently concluded Thomas-Uber Cup Finals.
Meanwhile, Japan also registered its presence by surging into semi-final round of both events. They overpowered world class sides like Denmark and Indonesia.
Their chief coach Joo Bong, who has been working with Japanese shuttlers for more than seven years, admired their effort in team event and declared this a great achievement.
He admitted that it was an uphill task to form a winning squad but the passion and compassion of his shuttlers made his job easy.
He said, “It isn’t easy to keep the team together when they are scattered all over. Communication is the key and I’m blessed because I have committed players.”
Now, other countries are also thinking to follow this working model of appointing a supremo for their national teams.
Malaysia is likely to be the next country as they have announced to revamp their coaching structure after the London Olympics.
