Li Yongbo cocky after China’s win against Indonesia at Sudirman Cup – Badminton news
Chief coach of China’s national badminton team Li Yongbo has taunted the poor performance of all other countries against China in the 2013 Sudirman Cup.
He said that he is tired to see China winning each and every time in the Sudirman Cup since the past 10 years.
In the quarter-final battle against Indonesia, Chinese shuttlers worked really hard and managed a narrow 3-2 victory. After the match, Yongbo commented that no one could beat China for the last 10 years and it has become a routine for him to see China winning.
China’s last defeat in Sudirman Cup came from the hands of South Korea back in 2003. Since then, Chinese shuttler dominated the field and won every subsequent edition of Sudirman cup proving that they are the best in business.
China has won eight editions of Sudirman Cup so far including the last four editions in a row. If Chinese players win the current edition, it will become fifth title in a row for China at this prestigious mixed team championship.
After the quarter-final contest, Yongbo said with a smile, “China have won the Sudirman Cup too many times – like eight times (1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011). I would not mind if other team win. In fact, I challenge the others to beat us.”
He further added, “Sometimes, it is good for others to win. It is not good for China to win it all the time.”
Denmark head coach Lars Uhre admitted that China has a very strong squad. However, at the same time, he also showed confidence on his team by saying that they also have strength.
He said, “We know that China are strong but we know our strength too.”
There are also many talented shuttlers in Denmark’s squad. They have top quality players in Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles categories. Many critics think that it will be an interesting fight between two top badminton nations.
The other semi-final of Sudirman Cup will be between South Korea and Thailand. It is for the first time in the history of Sudirman Cup that Thailand reached at the top-four stage.
