Question

what qualities does a libero need to have? my 3rd day of highschool volleyball tryouts are tomorrow and the coach is putting us in positions and i wanted to stick out as one. HELP!!!

The Libero is someone that is the ultimate DS(defensive specialist).  It must be the best defensive player in a team. Basically, you need to be a good solid passer and should have good reflexes for digging hard hits and diving for dinks. Since most coaches use their Libero for their middles and have them play middle back, they must be fast and can go end line to end line in no time because they cover a large area.

A Libero candidate needs to be quick, a very solid passer, and very good leader.

I expect my Liberos to lead the back row defense and fix mistakes, like aces, by rearranging serve receive formation, for example, to recover from them.

Liberos, most of the time, play in the 6 position (middle back) because this is where the majority of serves go and it's easy for them to cover the endline. (In Permimeter defense)

Liberos need to be great communicators as well.

What sets the good Libero apart from a great one, is the application of skills and technique. As someone else stated, you have all the good qualities a good Libero. To be a better one or great at it, you need to be able to use great passing skills with outstanding accuracy and do it with extremely good speed. Combine the above with the learned skill of being able to read your opposing teams hitters for placement. using all of the above skills together is whats puts the great above the good.
