Lia Neal pockets Women’s 100m freestyle gold: Day four – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Lia Neal of Asphalt Green-MR pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on last day of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Sunday, May 13.
The 17-year-old Neal displayed her splendid efforts in the double lap freestyle discipline and cruised her way towards the finishing end for gold medal.
Neal faced strong battle from Jessica Hardy of Trojan Swim Club throughout the event but with her powerful strokes and immaculate finish, she managed to outperform her over the finishing end for gold medal by clocking a time of 54.35 seconds.
The gold medallist was trailed by Hardy, who suffered a loss of 0.01 seconds and settled on the finishing end for silver medal by posting a time of 54.36 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Natalie Coughlin of California Aquatics, who stayed 0.23 seconds apart and completed the podium by securing bronze medal by submitting a time of 54.59 seconds.
Coughlin was followed by Megan Romano of Athens Bulldog-G, who stayed nearly half body length behind and completed her race with an effort of 55.22 seconds.
Romano was chased by Erika Erndl, of T2 Aquatics-FL, who remained just 0.33 seconds slower from upsetting her former finisher and transpired on the finishing end for fifth position by posting a time of 55.55 seconds.
The 33-year-old Erndl was followed by Amanda Weir of SwimAtlanta-GA, who was only 0.02 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for sixth position by posting a time of 55.57 seconds.
Weir was chased by Madison Kennedy of SwimMAC Carolina, who stayed 0.11 seconds slower and proved her eligibility for seventh position of the event by reporting an effort of 55.68 seconds.
Last position of the event was secured by Kara Lynn Joyce of Una MAC-NC, who was only 0.04 seconds slower and emerged on the wall with the timing of 55.72 seconds.
Furthermore, Neal was overjoyed with her stupendous efforts in the double lap freestyle discipline whereas the position holders were awarded medals and accolades for their blistering performances at the medal ceremony of the championship.
