Question:

Liability and cars and liens in NC?

If I sold a car in NC, got it transfered to the new owner, which is a jerk that hasnt paid me for it, is there some way I can put a lien on it, so he can pay me sometime. If I do a lien, would that put me under any liability. Or would he be liable for anything silly he does in that vehicle? Thanks

  1. It would help if you had a written agreement for how much the buyer owed you and when he was supposed to pay, but I'm pretty sure you can still get a lien and it won't make you liable for what he does. Contact your motor vehicle department. You might need a lawyer, or you could sue in small claims court, depending on the value of the car.
