Liaison wins the Real Quiet on 12th November at the Hollywood Park
On 12th November at Hollywood Park, Liaison won the Real Quiet after winning the maiden special weight on 14th October. His attempt at the maiden on 3rd September turned out to be a failure. The two-year-old colt of Indian
Charlie, out of Galloping Gal experienced his very first stakes test which he claimed successfully.
The Real Quiet Stakes entailed a purse of $100,000. Racing in partnership for making this accomplishment possible was jockey Rafael Bejarano. When left with a quarter of a mile, the two-year-old colt threatened the pace setter, Senor Rain, for getting the
lead in the race. This, Liaison achieved when there was still a furlong to go and later had to handle the late rallying horse, Rousing Sermon.
Liaison was able to seal the victory by completing the distance of 1 1/6 miles in 1 minute and 44.72 seconds and is now 2-for-3 with earnings reaching to $94,560. He was bought for $290,000 in September sale in 2010 at the Keeneland.
“Liaison is just getting better and better,’’ said Baffert, It’s good to win the Real Quiet. He’s been working well since Del Mar, but he’s just never showed a lot of speed for an Indian Charlie. He’s got just enough speed to keep him in the race. He’s still
green, but he worked real well here (a half mile in 47 4/5 Nov. 8)”.
The contestants for this race included Rousing Sermon who was the runner up riding with Joe Talamo onboard and was trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. Third to finish the race was P Miller trained Senor Rain with M Garcia to guide through the track. R Mandella’s
Tiz Point was fourth while Runstevierun was the last one to leave the track.
“(Rousing Sermon) looked like he was going to run right by him, but when he got to him my horse just kicked in again. That’s what you want to see right now”, said Beffert.
This was Liaison’s third racing experience with two wins till yet. In case his fourth attempt turns out to be a win then he will get entitled to a hat trick with just four starts which is an achievement in itself.
