Liam Broady destroys Jason Kubler; moves into Boys’ Singles final – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Fifteenth seeded local Liam Broady destroyed Aussie wildcard Jason Kubler in straight sets in their semi-final match at the 2011 Wimbledon Championships Boys’ Singles in London, England on Friday.
The local took close to ninety minutes to secure a straight sets 6-4, 6-3 win over the Australian.
Broady started the first set on a high note. Breaking his opponent in the fourth game, the Brit led the first set 4-1 after successful hold of serve on all his first serves. However, the Aussie was far from out. Holding his own
he broke back in the seventh game to reduce the deficit to 3-4 before levelling the score at four games each on his fourth service game. Leading the set 5-4, Broady broke Kubler in the tenth game losing no point in the process, clinching the first set 6-4.
Although Broady hit a lower first serve (56%) than Kubler (77%), he managed an impressive 83 percent win on it.  Although Broady committed three more errors than Kubler, he also hit ten more winners and struck two more aces to
go one up in the set score, taking almost forty minutes.
The second set started on even footing as both players held onto their first service games. However, fuelled by the local crowd Broady broke the Aussie in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead in the second set, extending it 4-1 on
his next service game.  Trailing 2-4, Kubler broke back in the seventh game to reduce the deficit. However, breaking back Broady once more took the lead at 5-3, before serving out the set to clinch a 6-3 win, sealing his straight sets victory and a berth in
the title match.
The fifteenth seeded Brit had earlier done away with German qualifier Robin Kern in the quarterfinal after securing a 13-11 win in the long set. Broady now moves on ahead to play either Japanese Kaichi Uchida or another Aussie,
sixteenth seed Luke Saville. The latter two are playing their semi-final match on Court 18 here today.
