Boys’ singles enters its final stages at Wimbledon Championships, with the 15thseed Liam Broady of Great Britain, winning his quarter-final clash against the German opponent Robin Kern on Thursday.
Being played at the Court 18 of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, England, the contest featured some of the finest grass-court tennis, with Broady winning after a tough fight with the German. The
Briton toiled hard for two hours and forty one minutes before he finally concluded victory in the third set at 7-6(4), 4-6, 13-11, to book a place in the semis of the Grand Slam tournament.
The evenly poised contest was a test of sheer determination and mental steel, which Broady exhibited with great skill to take down his opponent. The Briton had a tough time in the opening set, with some excellent power hitting
from Kern but managed to get one up in the contest after winning the tie breaker round.
The German stunned Broady to pull off the second set to level the competition at one-all before an enthralling final set was played between the two competitors. The third set extended to a total of 24 games, as both boys were not
prepared to submit the game. Broady finally got a break in the 23rd game of the set to register an emphatic victory over Kern and made a place in the semi-finals of Wimbledon Championships.
The Briton’s 68 per cent precise serve earned him 77 out of 105 first serve points in the game, with eight thudding aces as compared to Kern’s 13 fiery ones. Broady coughed 37 unforced errors in the matchup, which include nine
double faults but keep on bagging crucial points to come out as the winner in the end.
Only two serve breaks a piece were seen from both contestants, depicting the intense tennis that was played at the grass-courts of Wimbledon. The opener went on neck to neck, without any break points from both competitors and finally
a tie breaker was enforced at 6-6. Kern slumped in the decider, securing just four points to let Broady away with the set at 7-6(4).
The German bagged the second set with great command to impose a third one, which was a real roller coaster ride. After frittering away a number of match points in the third set, Broady finally converted one in the 24th game
to mark an end to the epic battle at 13-11 to move into the semi-finals of the tournament. He will face Jason Kubler, the Australian wildcard, in his next encounter for a place in the final of the mega event.
