Liam Messam signs contract extension with New Zealand Rugby Union
Liam Messam has re-signed a contract of another two years with New Zealand Rugby Union.
He has also made the same commitment with the Chiefs till the end of 2013. He was convinced by his All Blacks coaches who thought that it was the perfect time for him to play for his national and regional sides.
Messam has played for number of teams during this rugby career including his national side. He made his test debut in 2008 playing against Scotland in Edinburgh and has won 6 test caps up to now. Messam was introduced by the Chiefs in Super Rugby championship
in 2006 and he has been playing for the same team till the dates.
His Super Rugby career is consisted on 63 caps and he scored 70 points including 14 tries. He has wonderful record of representing his teams like the Chiefs and Waikato in the year of 2007 and 2008 for each and every game. Furthermore, he was the part of
gold medal winner team for New Zealand in Rugby Sevens during the Commonwealth games in Delhi and Melbourne.
He has remained useful player of his side throughout of his career and All Blacks coaches are expecting the same from him.
Talking about his new contract he told the media that, “I'm happy to be re-signing with New Zealand rugby as my family and I love New Zealand and there is nowhere else in the world I want to be playing right now.”
He further said that it was his utmost desire to play as long as he could for his teams. He declared that his ultimate goal was to win the coming World Cup kicking off later this year in September in their homeland.
He argued, “While doing well for the Chiefs is the immediate goal and the All Blacks is the obvious goal for everyone later in the year, I'm keen to continue beyond this year and that was why I have re-committed to New Zealand rugby.”
Mils Muliaina another All Blacks star is seeking the place in the team for RWC. Many players have made their comeback in the year of 2010.
Muliaina who was suffering from backbone injury, revealed about his desire to the local reporters and said, “That also brings the best out of you certainly the last few years it's done that for me and now I get an opportunity to get out there and play some
rugby and hopefully do some good stuff.”
Muliaina’s return is not sure but Messam has certainly joined the group of 14 players of New Zealand rugby who has joined the team this during year. The All Blacks management has welcomed his new contract and hoped that it would help them in the coming days.
