Liam Monk beats Joel Walker, Gary Wilson ousts Kishan Hirani: World Snooker Q School Event 3, day 1
Liam Monk and Gary Wilson relished success on the first day of the World Snooker Q School Event three as they defeated Joel Walker and Kishan Hirani in the first round.
Monday, May 23, 2011 was the day of whitewashes at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield; however, there were a couple of tussling encounters as well along with some easy ones.
Liam Monk 4-2 Joel Walker
Monk finally got the revenge of his defeat at the hands of Walker in the second event of the Q School as the Englishman, Monk, gave Walker the taste of his own medicine after he beat him with the same score line of 4-2 in the first round of Q School Event
three.
Monk grabbed a 2-1 lead smashing two rattling knocks of 57 and 49 in reply to Walker’s half-century break of 51 in the first round. However, Walker pulled level at 2-2 as he grabbed the fourth round with a convincing score line of 82-0 after firing a sensational
knock of 73.
The match entered into a tussling situation after it reached 2-2 level as both players tried their best to take the lead. However, Monk took advantage of Walker’s mistakes and grabbed the next two frames by 78-21 and 77-51 with a decent 49-point clearance
in the former to clinch the match 4-2.
Gary Wilson 4-0 Kishan Hirani
A whitewash victory for Gary Wilson in the first round of the Q School against Kishan Hirani pushed the
Englishman into the second round against Liam Monk.
Wilson took control of the game from the very beginning and completely outplayed the Welshman Hirani with his excellent snooker skills. Hirani failed to make his presence felt at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield as he could not build any big breaks
during the match.
A couple of outstanding clearances of 52, 124 and 70, along with some small breaks, brought Wilson on the verge of victory and he took the match with an overall score line of 58-17 (Wilson 52), 82-20, 125-0 (Wilson 124), 109-6 (Wilson 70).
