Liam Neeson favours Manny Pacquiao over Floyd Mayweather – Boxing Special
Hollywood superstar Liam Neeson believes WBC welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather is afraid of Manny Pacquiao, as he knows the Filipino proud is the only threat to his unbeaten streak. According to Neeson, the only reason why a fight between Pacquiao and
Mayweather is not happening is Mayweather’s unwillingness to fight an equal.
“I would pay any amount of money to be at that fight,” said Neeson in an interview with ESPN. Neeson has been an amateur fighter during his days and now he is one of the leading actors of Hollywood, and a onetime Oscar nominee.
“I was OK, I was competent. I was a jabber, I had a good jab. I had about 40 fights and I won about maybe 30,” he added.
Neeson has acted in several top rated movies such as Taken, Clash of the Titans, Les Miserables, The A-Team, Batman Begins, Battleship, Unknown, After.Life and many more. Neeson has become one of the most known Hollywood faces today, appearing in nearly
every other major movie.
To Neeson, Pacquiao is the better fighter between the two welterweights.
“Pacquiao is still amazing. He's getting a little bit older, but in the championship rounds, from 9 to 12, he just gets stronger and stronger and stronger,” he added.
“That's the sign of a great champion.”
When asked about why Mayweather hesitates facing Pacquiao, Neeson asserted that Mayweather might just be scared of Pacquiao.
“I think he's scared of Pacquaio… I don't mean he is scared, like terrified of his life, but I think he thinks he can see in Pacquiao someone that could beat him.”
It should be noted here that Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank has already promised fans a fight between the two next year, 2013. Once again, fans are excited to see both the welterweight kings clash, and they are hopeful that this time Arum’s promise
is not meant to break like always.
As of now, Pacquiao is scheduled to face long time rival Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will be a fourth one between the two.
