Liam Tancock and Michael Rock shine in Sheffield - British Gas ASA National Championships 2011
After the sizzling performance of Joanne Jackson in the Women’s 200m freestyle meet, Liam Tancock and Michael Rock topped the Men’s 50m back-stroke and 200m butterfly events respectively, at the British Gas ASA National Championships in Sheffield, on June
14.
In the Men’s 50m back-stroke race, Liam Tancock picked up the top seed with a sterling time of 25.05 seconds. Earlier, he had set a world record in the respective race with a fastest time of 24.95 seconds. Luke Wood ended his swim second in a time of 26.06
seconds, whereas, Craig McNally wound up third as he touched the finishing wall in 26.10 seconds.
Overall, the Men’s 50m back-stroke meet was very intriguing, as the race really went down to the wire. Despite the close battle, Liam Tancock’s durable stamina and impeccable speed played a defining role in winning the event for him with a convincing margin.
Tancock, who won two gold medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, looks very confident and determined to repeat his performance at the upcoming FINA World Championships in Shanghai, this July. The World Championships are scheduled to be held from July 16-31,
where all the top swimmers from the world will compete in the quest to become the best in the business.
After the successful performance of Liam Tancock in the Men’s 50m back-stroke event, another British Swimmer, Michael Rock, came out strongly in the Men’s 200m butterfly race and nabbed the golden crown with a winning time of 1 minute and 57.35 seconds.
Earlier, he set a world record in the corresponding event with a sterling time of 1 minute and 56.26 seconds, in March.
Lain Macmillan secured the second spot in the respective meet after he touched the finishing wall in a victorious time of 1 minute and 59.39 seconds, whereas, Adam Mallett wound up third in a time of 2 minutes and 00.16 seconds.
Both, Liam Tancock and Michael Rock were immensely pleased and satisfied with their own performances in the 50m back-stroke and 200m butterfly finals, respectively.
