Question:

Liberals, can you explain WHY you want the woman to have a "choice" of an abortion?

You always say that it should be the woman's "choice". But, you say just that: "choice", without explaining exactly WHAT "choice" is being discussed. You would certainly not advocate a "choice" to kill an animal, right?

And, you never explain why exactly you want the woman to have this "choice".

  1. I'm with fish girl.

I think we need to put together nice clean rooms to murder people we don't like.  I mean you could get hurt killing someone and we sure don't want that to happen.  I mean why even make rape or murder illegal, it still happens.

This is a typical liberal argument.  It makes no sense, but it sounds kind of neat.

  2. Teenagers nowadays are going to have s*x, whether we tell them too or not. We need to except this and provide them with birth control if needed and safe s*x education to prevent them from catching diseases and getting pregnant. Because when they do have s*x, if abortion is illegal, you will just most likely create a whole extra people in a  generation living off the government or a bunch of kids in foster homes. In the end, it will bring society down a notch, which is not what we need.

  3. Because she is best able to determine whether or not she should continue a pregnancy... And?

When you get pregnant, YOU can choose.

  4. As a hunter, I do believe in the choice to kill an animal (and I do, and believe me, they are delicious).

I want a woman to have a choice because I believe it's her choice to make, not mine, or yours, or the crackpot church you probably go to.

  5. Ugh, the stupidity. The "choice" in question is the choice to decide what is done with one's body. The right to bodily privacy is also why we cannot be forced to donate blood and why people are given a choice about donating their organs after death. This right is uncontroversially upheld elsewhere in society (in fact, many on the religious right stridently uphold it in regards to organ donation and the dead's right to bodily privacy. If even a dead person's bodily privacy is upheld in life or death situations (thousands die every year from lack of suitable organ donors), it is hard to see why a woman's right to bodily privacy should not be similarly upheld.

The child may be a separate being, but that is not relevant. A person in need of an organ transplant is a separate being too, but we still uphold the right to bodily privacy, even if that separate person will die. Our culture has decided time and again that your body cannot be used against your will to guarantee another's life.

And all of this is of course assuming that a fetus is unproblematically a "person." There are a number of reasons not to assume this. But even if we grant it, a woman's right to "choose" is still justified on the grounds of bodily privacy.

Now go away and play and leave the difficult thinking to adults.

P.S. And please stop lying about being concerned about what happens to a "developing child." Are you pushing for funding medical research in how to prevent the estimated 50% loss rate among fertilized eggs during the course of natural pregnancy? If you believe that "life starts at conception," this would seem to be equivalent to a 50%+ child mortality rate, a medical disaster even in the poorest of countries. The fact that pro-lifers remain silent about this just goes to show they don't really believe what they claim to.

  6. I'm not a liberal, but I share this viewpoint.  First, let me say that if you believe that pro-choice proponents "never explain why exactly you want the woman to have this 'choice'," then you haven't been listening.

I for one do not believe abortion should be a choice whatsoever.  I disagree with it very much, except in very specific and obvious cases.  Part of this is my Christian faith.  However, I refuse to turn my faith into the law and force everyone to do what I believe they should do.  I do not believe it is the government's role to enforce the beliefs of a religion (specifically, the religious right wing in America).  So, I believe from a government perspective, it should be a choice up to the woman and nobody else.

  7. The fetus - different DNA, different blood type and often a different gender - the argument about a woman's rights to determine what she does with HER OWN body doesn't really have a lot of validity.

  8. I don't want to control a woman's important choice in life during pregnancy so you can send her child off to war so that it can be killed later.

  9. They want choice for the woman, s***w choice for the baby or man who helped make it!

    Selfish!

  10. I have a T-shirt I paid 15 bucks for that says "Abortion is Selfish" on the front and "It is a great tragedy to decide that a child must die so you may live as you wish -Mother Teresa" on the back. It speaks the truth. WHY do women have to be so selfish? If they don't want to risk getting pregnant, than WHY do they have s*x? It's a simple concept: you have s*x, you may get pregnant. You don't have s*x, you won't get pregnant.

It's DISGUSTING that a woman has the right to choose what happens to an innocent child. He's/she's her own flesh and blood for crying out loud! The only choice they deserve is whether to open or close their legs.

  11. Everything has a good and a bad side. Abortion is a womans choice. I personally would try to not make this mistake in the first place. But people make mistakes all the time because no ones perfect. Sometimes abortion maybe neccessary to someone who actually can't afford to have a child. But then again we ask why make that mistake in the first place. Banning abortion isn't going to make things better though because someone who wants to do this will try anything and I mean ANYTHING. People will do it illegally if its banned but its not going to be safe for them. SO the down side about abortion is that a poor innocent baby in the making will be aboted and the upside is that people that actually want to love their child and want the best for them can have children instead of leaving them in the streets or taking them for adoption. But in general I believe abortion is wrong because there is life and by aborting it. its like your killing something.

  12. Wow. So you block people who make a point thats against yours? How sad and pathetic.

My answer: How will kids know how to protect themselves? If they get pregnant, and are uneducated on the topic, should that be that and the mother/father & child suffer because of it? Isn't that kind of selfish?

You'll proabley block or report me, but that means you read it :D

    EDIT: Louisiana Blue...

This is my account for things like this.

And you should do what I do, ADD those who disagree with you. It makes there q&a so much more interesting then someone who you agree with on everything, ya know?

  13. I've never understood the whole "It's my body I can do with it as I please" argument.  Do you understand what DNA is?  Do you understand that every cell in your body has identical DNA?  Do you understand that the DNA of a fetus is different from the DNA of the mother?

The fetus is not the body of the mother.

  14. Making abortion illegal will not stop abortion. The most you will accomplish is denying women a clean, safe facility with a trained professional. Why don't you start teaching s*x ed and passing out condoms instead of your self-defeating abstinence c**p?

  15. Because people should be allowed to make choices about what happens to their body.  Make abortion illegal, and it becomes a very slippery slope.  What do you care anyway, you aren't a woman.

  16. Well, I'm not liberal, but "choice" sounds a whole lot better than "kill my baby." Everyone knows that abortion is killing a human, but they just want to sugarcoat it so they don't feel so bad. I really can't stand when a woman says, "It's my body." Um, no! It's a baby inside your body. I know its connected by the umbilical cord, but it's still another being.

  17. Outlook good

  18. It should be obvious: The choice of whether or not to have a save (for the mother) and legal (that means that the cops aren't going to come after you and the abortionist) abortion under hospital conditions.  They are not talking about a choice between paper or plastic.  That is for the tissue disposial people to decide.

And there is that other side that has the short-had slogan: Pro-Life.  Thay shoud really be changed to pro-live-birth.  After that, kid, you and your mom are on your own.

  19. we want the woman to choose what clean, safe facility she can use to pretend she's not killing a human being.

If liberals are so for "it's her body" - then why don't they demand that prostitution and street drugs become legal with the same fervor that they have for abortion?
