Liberals, how many of you actually want the government to solve all your problems?

I'm often called a liberal and I just want to say that I support smaller government and states rights ... and I'm curious if there are actually liberals out there who want to create more federal laws (because that's the last thing I want) ... or is it just a common misconception that cons like to harp on?

(I consider myself socially liberal and fiscally conservative)

  1. Then how are you a liberal?

All of the Democrat Party Candidates want to socialize health care, that would make government huge!  How does that work with your Fiscally Conservative half?

I'm not saying that the Republicans are the best but they are all less collectivist than all of the Democrats.

If the government uses pays for something that means it is SO important that it's ok to take the money from people at gun point.  (if you don't pay you taxes for to long, you will get a gun pointed at you)

  2. Bush is the one who's been pointing at the screen and telling everyone what he intends to do with trillions of your tax dollars.  And he's no master of logic or economy.  He hands over everything to his war contractors and to big corporations that supported his campaign

Nobody wants that kind of  wasteful government...especially liberals.

  3. I'm a political moderate (Libertarian) so...

I think that the government should step in as far as domestic policy issues, such as abortion and g*y marriage, but as far as keeping the government out of our homes or further insinuating themselves into our wallets (IRS), our private phone conversations, where we surf on the Internet, and all matters of privacy (the Patriot Act), I wholeheartedly agree that the government should be smaller and less obtrusive.

As far as the government solving our problems, that is simply the folly of fools. NO GOVERNMENT has ever, nor will they ever, be able to solve all the problems of the people because of the simple axiom:

"You can make SOME of the people happy ALL of the time, and you can make ALL of the people happy SOME of the time, but you can NEVER make ALL of the people happy ALL of the time.

In other words, you can't please everyone. That's true of each of us as individuals, and most certainly true of mammoth organizations like a government. To hold to the notion that any one person, idea, or organization can solve all of our problems is both naive and uninformed.

  4. Of course not. What we want is a government that acknowledges the existence of market failures and addresses them, that ensures all Americans have access to education and healthcare and then leaves us all alone.

  5. Our government now can't add 2 +2=?  ,much less solve any problem I've ever had .

  6. I love how government seems to mess things up lately.  Illegal immigration legislation is stalled, Hurricane Katrina victims not helped right away, etc.

And then people want the government to solve their problems?   Wouldn't it stand to reason with as badly as they're botching things up people would rather try to solve things themselves.

  7. There is lots and lots of laws now! But no one around to enforce them, go ahead and make more, I don`t care

  8. How else would you explain the popularity of Hillary, Obama, and Edwards?

  9. I am a Democrat, not a liberal.  I have never received help from the government of any kind.  I don't have a problem with my tax dollars helping others. Human welfare yes, corporate welfare, no.
