Question:

Liberals and Alternative Energy?

by  |  earlier

Liberals, environmentalists, and other groups are fixated on alternative energy sources. Many are akin to the strategy of "forcing" the market to produce new alternative energy technology by making conventional sources (ie. fossil fuel and nuclear power) either too regulated or too expensive to the point where they are impractical.

QUESTIONS:

Why aren't all these liberals producing any technological breakthroughs yet, you know, since there is such a "crisis" now??????????? - I mean, a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle still costs over $2 Million.

More importantly, since Al Gore, Dr. Heidi Cullen, and all these other people in the spotlight are so enlightened on this subject and obviously have the resources and connections, why are they just buying carbon credits, instead of actively working to produce results?????????

As conventional forms of energy are becomming too regulated and too expensive, what alternatives are available for less fortunate members of society???

  1. Liberals are focused on lying to Americans like usual. They are pushing for sales of ethanol based fuels which actually get significantly less MPG than regular gasoline. As consumers why would we be willing to shell out money for less conducive forms of automobile fuel!

  2. Kennedy and liberals took us to the moon, and developed economical energy alternatives too numerous to mention.  They are long gone and dead due to the Republican rule for most of our lives, who bought them out in fits of insecurity, focusing only on digging us into a dark oil hole.  They won, and thanks to no regulation whatsoever, now have people starving and unable to drive.

There are liberal scientists working on these issues. Obviously if the economic incentives are greater than private enterprise will also step in and step up investments in R&D. Some of the technology already exists but is expensive up front. It would pay off in the long run.

More importantly, since Al Gore, Dr. Heidi Cullen, and all these other people in the spotlight are so enlightened on this subject and obviously have the resources and connections, why are they just buying carbon credits, instead of actively working to produce results?????????

Al Gore is not a scientist or inventor. He didn't invent the internet. However, he did pass legislation and fund projects to help develop it further. His role with energy alternatives is a policy role - securing and lobbying for government funding and for favorable policies.

We can improve public transportation systems. We can also cut taxes on poor people. Giving someone a rebate cheque is a more effective way of dealing with the negative incidence of high gas prices than directly altering the relative price of gasoline with a decrease in the gas tax, because there are many more fortunate members of society who can easily afford $5/gallon gasoline or can afford a hybrid car or better home insulation.  The government should also provide subsidies to poor people for things like double-glazing windows, installing energy efficient appliances and insulating.

  4. i personally believe modern democrats are worse for the environment.  First of all most of them appose nuclear which is our best hope for energy, hydrogen fuel cells are just an elaborate battery because it takes a lot of energy to produce hydrogen, and they support corn based ethonal which isnt efficent (even mccain knows that).

  5. It would take 40 years before we can benefit form any of the "alternative technologies" its total c**p. we had might as well just take the d**n oil from the middle east by force! its a no win situation really but we need to start something!

  6. We could start running every diesel engine built in the last ten years on Biodiesel tomorrow afternoon. That would put a pretty big dent in that manufactured "crisis" that oil companies are using as an excuse to s***w us. And using left over grease that you can get from restaurants for free would be pretty economical for "less fortunate" people.

How 'bout if we stop letting people manipulate us into believing this is a political issue and start accepting the fact that we need an actual long term solution and it isn't fossil fuels.

  7. Of course when the writer refers to white people, he really means liberals:

"An interesting fact about white people is that they firmly believe that all of the world’s problems can be solved through “awareness.”  Meaning the process of making other people aware of problems, and then magically someone else like the government will fix it.

This belief allows them to feel that sweet self-satisfaction without actually having to solve anything or face any difficult challenges.  Because, the only challenge of raising awareness is people not being aware.  In a worst case scenario, if you fail someone doesn’t know about the problem.  End of story.

What makes this even more appealing for white people is that you can raise “awareness” through expensive dinners, parties, marathons, selling t-shirts, fashion shows, concerts, eating at restaurants and bracelets.  In other words, white people just have to keep doing stuff they like, EXCEPT now they can feel better about making a difference.

Raising awareness is also awesome because once you raise awareness to an acceptable, aribtrary level, you can just back off and say “Bam! did my part.  Now it’s your turn.  Fix it.”

So to summarize - you get all the benefits of helping (self satisfaction, telling other people) but no need for difficult decisions or the ensuing criticism (how do you criticize awareness?).  Once again, white people find a way to score that sweet double victory.

Popular things to be aware of: The Environment, Diseases like Cancer and AIDS, Africa, Poverty, Anorexia, Homophobia,  Midde School Field Hockey/Lacrosse teams, Drug Rehab, and political prisoners."

  8. amen to that :]

  9. i agree with you buddy and the d**n liberals have kept us from having any new nuclear plants which would help energy dmeands but noooooo

  10. Well I also think we forget that we have other means of producing ethanol.  Not only from graincrop but from sugar.  Theres clean coal and solar and we just need to develop an effective and organized infrastructure to take full advantage of these technologies.
