How do i read specific plays like shoots,quicks,tandom,etc?

In most younger teams, players that know they are getting the set ahead of time move with more purpose, then if they don't think they are getting the set.

If you see two front row players getting big eyes and moving to approach, it's a hint that their may be a tandem. Younger players just don't get that if you always hustle and act like you are getting the set, opposing teams won't know what you are planning.

You can watch for the same on a shoot, if you see a player approaching the net before a set and he's got big eyes and the setter is "signaling" (See below) a set in that direction, it will most likely be a shoot.

Watching the setter is key also, you must be ready to read the setter. Watch for small tendencies, like head nods (signal to go with a huddle called play), arched back (back set), bent knees more than usual (outside set), straight legs and an approaching middle (quick 1 or 2), etc.

Think of Volleyball as a game (for you) between the opposing team's body language and you. Even the best setters in the world give away "tells", and just like poker, the best players read tells easily.

you should have your team hit them at you in practice....it helps you know what they look like, how fast they are, and where they most often go...and before you play the team, watch their hitting lines to see what they run and how often, while doing this you should be watching their shoulders to see their angles/lines

The first thing you should observe is the other team's pass to their setter.  You should see how good it is and how far it is off from the net.

If the setter gets the pass off from the net, the setter may still shoot it to outside but wouldn't go for a quick to the middle and wouldn't set back 2 either unless the opposiet hitter is left-handed.

When the pass is perfect, there is no way for anyone to read a good setter until he sets the ball.  You have to to some guessing game but try to play defense on your opponent's best hitter more than the others.

its hard at first but then u should get used to it...theres notreally a certain way to give directions.u should get used to it tho.and it shouldnt take long.
