Question:

Libero and DS?

by  |  earlier

I've read in so many places that both are allowed to serve, but in some some games and club volleyballs, they aren't allowed to serve. I have seen them serve before though.. And people tell me different things. What are the rules for a libero and DS to serve? Are they allowed to or not?

Also, in your opinion, which one has more benefits and would better suit the team?

Thanks in advance!

  1. I can't understand ur question any way just pick the ball and serve ......

  2. i can answer this! both DS's and liberos should be able to serve. liberos are better for the team because when you are subed out when your position is in the front row it doesn't take away the presious subs that your team has left where as ds's do =]

  3. As libero you can serve mostly it depends on the school and the coach, and how strong of a server you are. A libero is better for the team, because you can sub them in without taking away from the number of substitutions your coach is allowed to make.

  4. A DS is always allowed to serve. for high school vball a libero CAN serve but only for one person. In club vball and JO's a libero CANT serve.

  5. It depends on what you are doing, clubs vs. high school varsity or something.

Libero can serve for varsity and sometimes 8th grade level depending on the school.

  6. the libero is the same as a DS!

and no liberos/ds cannot serve in club, but they can in college. i don't know about highschool

  7. Libro can serve for 1 person.

  8. As mentioned in some of the answers, the Libero can serve in US junior high and US colleges only.  Nowhere else in the world does the Libero get to serve.

If I was the coach and I had a very strong defensive player, I would have them play Libero.

The Libero can play almost every play in the back row.  The only time a Libero is out is when the player they are going in for is serving.  In USAV, that is only for 2 players.  In US high schools and US colleges, that is only for 1 player.

A DS only play for half the match.  The DS sits out when the player they sub in for is playing the front row.
