  1. Acutally it is to the advantage of the team who utilizes the Libero because you play just one spot on the court and don't have to worry about playing the net.

The Libero is allowed to serve in college level, but middle school and high school they usually don't serve.

  2. just ask ur coach..

  3. There are no drawbacks if you have a good defensive player that will not play on the front row.

The Libero can play almost the entire match in the back row.  They only have to sit out one play and then they can replace any back row player.  This year, they can serve in junior high and high schools.  (New rule for 2007)  That even means that the Libero does not have to sit out that one play if they go directly to serve.  They can only serve is one spot per game.  (For example, if the Libero replaces the second server for the team.  They can only serve in the second spot of the lineup for that game.  Most teams have the Libero replacing the 2 players that are opposite each other.  If that is the case, the front row player replaces the Libero and the Libero immediately replaces the opposite in order for the Libero to serve.

There are 2 things a Libero can not do.  One is attack a ball that is completely above the height of the net and send it over.  The other thing the Libero can not do is set a ball using their hands while on or inside the 10 foot line to a hitter that attacks a ball that is completely over the height of the net.

  4. My middle school team didn't have one last year, but since more and more tall girls are playing volleyball, then a small, quick, good digger in the back row can really benefit your team, because it's not like she's trying to block 6-5 girls!!  The only drawback is you usually can't serve, and you never get the benifit of assisting/hitting, but other than that, it's a great position! :D
