Libertarian eying Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby – Horseracing news
Libertarian is targeting the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby after his strong run in the Investec Derby, where he secured the runner up position.
According to trainer Elaine Burke, “We are still mulling things over but we will give the horse a week on the easy list and if we are happy with everything the plan will be to supplement him for the Curragh race. He has simply the best temperament I have
seen in a horse as nothing gets him revved or buzzed up.”
She added, “All he wanted to do in the box on the way back was eat and then when we got him back to the yard he ate everything up as well which for a horse that has just finished second in the Derby is fantastic.”
Liberation was given a general starting price of 14 to 1 for the Investec Derby and he was expected to finish outside the top-three in the presence of some extremely good runners such as Dawn Approach and Ruler Of The World.
However, the three-year-old colt took his opponents by surprise and finished as a runner up by one and a half length. He ran pretty well and displayed some very good stamina, which allowed him to challenge at the front for a victory. Although he was unable
to threat the race winner, he impressed one and all overall.
One of the main reasons for Liberation’s solid show was that Dawn Approach went out of control in the opening phases of the race. He was rated as the outright favourite to succeed, but dropped way down in 12th place. This was clearly disappointing for his
team, but some of the other stallions took advantage of this situation.
Ruler Of The World was the one who benefited the most from the entire situation. He might not have found it easy to finish first in the race, had Dawn Approach been at his best. However, the former of the two stallions found it quite easy to earn a cash
prize of £782,314 in the end.
This was the third consecutive victory for the young challenger, who has never been beaten in his career until now.
