Libor Podmol conquers the Berlin Night of the Jumps - 2011 FIM Freestyle MX World Championship

After a really intense contest with all riders pulling off spectacular tricks in front of 6,800 spectators, it was the reigning International Motorcyclist Federation Motocross World Champion from Czech Republic, Libor, Podmol, who walked away with the win
in the third and final round of the Night of Jumps held on 6th March in Berlin. Chile’s Javier Villegas earned second place, as the French Remi Bizouard rounded out the podium.
Prior to entering the third round of the 2011 International Motorcycling Federation Freestyle MX World Championship at Berlin, Podmol was not having the best of seasons. He had crashed in the Italian opener and was unable to make it to the final. The reigning
World Champion also failed to make much of an impact in front of the 11,000 spectators on the first day of the Night of the Jumps, finishing fifth in round two of the contest. However, on the second day of the event, Podmol was as merciless to his competition
as ever.
In the third and final round of the competition, Podmol put up a show that will definitely remain in the memory of those who caught it live. The Czech Republic born rider pulled off two Underflips, a Cliffhanger Flip and a Superman Seatgrab Flip Indy. The
spectacular run left the crowd and judges in awe and earned him 420 points to secure the highest spot on the podium. Podmol may have started a little late, but his season is finally underway.
Chile’s Villegas came in second place after getting beat by Podmol’s sensational run. He did however manage to prevail over the two-time World Champion and current leader in this season’s standings, Bizouard. Villegas earned 406 points from the judges after
a spectacular run, while Bizouard had to settle for third place with 405 points.
The biggest disappointment came from Jose Miralles. The Spaniard has electrified the crowd with his amazing tricks in the second round of the event a day earlier. It seemed as if he was still suffering a hangover from the victory in the second round, because
in the final round, he failed to even make it to the podium after finishing fourth. After looking so promising on the first day of the weekend, the rider had failed to live up to expectations.
To the utter dismay of the crowd, Fabian Bauersachs, Hannes Ackermann, Lukas Weis and Kai Haase failed to qualify for the finals of the event.
With the second round of the FIM Freestyle MX World Championship wrapping up, Bizouard is still holding on to his top position in the World Championship standings with 38 points. Miralles is breathing down his neck, sitting in second place with 36 points.
Villegas is placed third with 34 points. With his success in Berlin this weekend, Podmol has moved up to the fifth place with 20 points.
