What would it be for? How would I go about obtaining one, and is it a solid field to get into? I currently work in member service for health insurance and am looking into getting into a different type, but I see a lot require a license in insurance.

  1. You can write a general insurance exam. Contact your regional office of insurance institute. I am in canada so i talked to Northern Alberta Insurance Institute. It costed me $250 for the books and i studyed for two weeks. And $50 for the test and passed. Most dont fair so well but if you study and actually wanna do good i am sure you will pass easy. It is a good field to get into alot of growth and areas you can move to. Where i am i had to get my Level 2 license in 36months from the date i passed my Level 1 test. And now i currently work for a Brokerage as a Personal Lines Account Executive. Remember you make a career out of anything you just need to work at it and keep learning.

    Good luck

  2. It would be to sell insurance, or to advise about insurance. You get one by passing a test, and sometimes taking a course or two.

It's a solid field, but MOST of the time, it's straight commission sales work.

  3. You can find out about licensing from your state insurance commissioner http://www.naic.org/state_web_map.htm

Some states require a 40 hour class, some let you self study, some require a insurance company sponsor.

To get started you may want to take your knowledge and work for a health insurance agent or brokerage.
