Question:

License plates expiring?

My plates expire very soon & I am not going to renew them - I am also not able to drive the car - it will sit until it's taken care of (which might be 15 months from now, that's the law, nothing I can control)

Is it true that we can be ticketed for not getting it renewed?

PS it's not our fault we're not renewing the tags - It was totaled in a car accident - I was supposed to be paid & get this taken care of last month but it looks like we have no idea when the insurance company will pay us - I am assuming that doesn't matter - but thought I'd let you know

Am I right? ((I have a good attorney should it come down to tickets on the car))

  1. If your state has a 'non-operational' status for cars, you go and have it 'non-op'ed'. Then you won' t have to pay back registration fees and penalties.

  2. You can't be ticketed if the vehicle is on private property, like in a garage. If you leave it on the street it is surely going to get ticketed and/or towed.
