Liew Daren confident to win against Taufik Hidayat in main round of the Singapore Open Super Series
Malaysia’s Liew Daren is determined to win against Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat in the Men’s Singles first round of the 2011 Singapore Open Super Series. Daren has gained immense confidence, as he demonstrated an excellent performance against higher ranked
shuttlers in the qualifying round of the event on June 14.
The Malaysian delivered a terrific performance in the first match of the qualifying round, where he crushed Netherland’s Dicky Palyama in straight games. In the final contest of the qualifying round, Daren defeated the experienced compatriot, Muhammad Hafiz
Hashim in a straight-set match.
While talking about his performance in the Men’s Singles qualifying round, Darren said, “It was a good day for me as I defeated opponents who are ranked higher than me. I played well to beat Hafiz in a big event. It augurs well for me.”
The Malaysian shuttler is confident to continue his winning streak against the World Number Three, Taufik, who is also a former Olympic gold medallist and World Champion.
Darren’s aim is to become the best shuttler in Malaysia after Lee Chong Wei, who is currently the World Number One in the rankings.
Darren expressed his views about the upcoming first-round match in the main round against the Indonesian and said, “I will enjoy the opportunity to play against a player of Taufik’s calibre. I will go all out against him tomorrow.”
There is no Malaysian shuttler in the back-up line of the Men’s Singles, who has bagged victory against Taufik even for a single time. Back-up shuttlers of Malaysia who failed to beat the Indonesian legend in their previous meetings are Tan Chun Seang, Mohd
Arif Abdul Latif, Chan Kwong Beng and Chong Wei Feng.
World Number 64, Daren, is currently doing well as he delivered a good performance in yesterday’s qualifying-round fights. He is in good shape and his movement is also quite smooth in the court. He is expected to put up a fine show against the top seed,
who is regarded as one of the most celebrated and successful shuttlers in the world of badminton.
