Liew Daren hopeful to end his bad patch in Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold – Badminton News
Malaysia’s Men’s Singles player, Liew Daren is quite hopeful to end his prolonged bad patch in the upcoming tournament of the Thailand Open grand Prix Gold 2011, which will take place in Bangkok, from June 7-12.
Daren has been struggling in the past few months to find better flow and good form. In 2011, the shuttler has participated in the five tournaments, but has been unable to deliver any considerable performance in any of these events.
World Number 64, Daren is determined to end his bad run by playing a better game in Thailand. His world ranking in the Men’s Singles category showed a slight improvement after he played the third round in the Asian Badminton Championships 2011, and he wants
further improve on that.
Daren said, “Although it is a sign of improvement, I’m still not satisfied because I know I can do better. My target is to reach at least the quarter-finals in the Thailand Open. It is not entirely an easy draw and I really want to make the best of the opportunity.”
The 24-year-old Malaysian knows that many top class shuttlers are participating in the event, including the ruling World Champion, Chen Jin of China and his team-mate and current World Number four, Chen Long, who will also be the top seed in the Men’s Singles
category of the event. Daren would need to be on the top of his game if he wants to leave an impression in the tournament.
He further added, “Although there are many strong players in the field, I believe anyone is beatable and I just need to step up my game. I have been putting much effort into training even though I am still carrying an ankle injury and I hope it will pay
off.”
Daren will also participate in the Sea Games, which will take place in Indonesia in November, 2011. Since World Number One, Lee Chong Wei, is not participating in the event, Daren is expected to represent his country as the Malaysian top seed in the event.
