  1. The cost of living depends on your lifestyle. The non discretionary spending like on foodstuff, grocery, etc for a couple would be in the range of BD 100-150. Eating out depending on the restaurant costs anywhere from BD 2-BD 10 for a couple. 2 Bedroom flats cost anywhere from BD 250-BD 450 in a good locality. Juffair is costly and costs over BD 800. Transportation is expensive as there are no public transportation and most of the people here hire drivers who pick up and drop people from work and even from malls. Its illegal but very convenient.

Salary is dependent on what your qualifications and your experience. Give additional data on that and maybe I will try to give a ballpark figure. But do ensure that you get a housing as its the most expensive component of living costs here

  2. Groceries and gas are about the only cheap things here in Bahrain. Everything else is pretty much on a barter system.

For instance, taxis can be bartered down to around 2 dinar's for a ride in most places in town. But if they think you don't know better, they will ask for 10-15 dinars.

  3. How much will you be paid? Will it include housing? A car?

If we have a bit more details, we can tell you how you'll be able to live here (what lifestyle) depending on different options.

1 US DOLLAR is 0.377 BD (We call that 377 Fills).

    That means 1 BD is $ 2.65.

    - You can get decent rent here from BD 150 to something above BD 1,000.

    - electricity and water bills should be cheap all year long (below BD 50 I suppose) except for August and July where you’ll be depending on air-conditioning.

    - It'll cost you less if you get yourself a car. Petrol isn't expensive here. Depending on taxis isn't cheap.

  4. This will be my third year here What type of work do you do to come here? most jobs offer a housing allowance. The exchange rate here is roughly .375 Fils (cents) to the US dollar- To convert US to BD x .375 convert BD to US dollar divide by .375

To get an idea a small bottle (400 ml) of water or soda will cost .100 fils (.26 cents) a loaf of bread is about .300 fils (.80 cents) a liter of milk / O.J  will run about .850 fils ($2.26) cars can go around 3,000.00 BD ($8,000.00)-  some cheaper and some more depending on what you want.

You can go on the internet to Bahrain.com and find links to the local papers that have ads for housing and renting- note don't live in Juffair it is really expensive.

Hope that answers your questions, a lot depends on what type of work you are doing here and the companies package they give for living.
