I am signing up for life insurance, and have four options for my beneficiary. The options are:

-Basic Life Primary

-Basic Life Contingent

-Optional Life Primary

-Optional Life Contingent

What are the differences between the four? Which one is the best one to choose?

  1. you should have a representative who can go through this with you. where is he/she?

  2. This is for work.  Your basic life is the amount that they're giving you and the optional is the additional that you may or may not be buying.  You can set up a different beneficiary for both if you'd like.  To do so put the beneficiary's name in for primary.  Then the contingent would be who you'd want the proceeds to go to if your primary beneficiary was deceased.

  3. A primary beneficiary is your number one choice to receive the death benefit.  A contingent beneficiary is an alternate choice - if your primary choice predeceased you.

"Basic" and "Optional" sounds like something to do with coverage levels but you don't provide enough detail.
