Im in the Dep program and I ship to MCRD PI on June 15th. I want to be Marine Infantry but was wandering if someone could give me an idea on the living situations. My recruiter told me you get an apartment/dorm like room and room with 2 or 3 people but infantry is different. How different is it and the daily life of say pogs.

  1. Yes your recruiter is correct. You do get a room with 1 or 2 mates..But when you deploy you may not live in a room. And im not talking about deployments to the middle east..You might even deploy on ship and that would be your home..You only live in your room when your at your home base..Infantry spends more time away from their home base then at their base..

You need to use common sense to distinguish the life of a grunt and the life of a pogue..So ill let you use your imagination since you have selected the infantry MOS i will assume you know what they do..Well then its simple..a pogue does not live like that..

And if I were you I would wait until you have earned the right to call someone a pogue before you call them that, because last time I checked they are in the Marines and have earned that right and you have yet to earn squat.

  2. Lavadog gave you good advice. Heed it.

You ain't a grunt yet so you can't use the word "pogue." Graduate from ITS/SOI first. To you they are "Marines," you're just a nasty unsat civilian.

Living situations differ from base to base. At most bases, single enlisted Marines are housed in the BEQ's which are three man rooms. In some places like Okinawa you might be in a squadbay. On board ship, you'll just have a rack and locker. As a grunt you'll go to the field much more than a pogue but other than that life doesn't differ that much.

  3. I hope you like to hump

and not the good kind of " hump" either

  4. lol,,,agree with the first poster,  hope you like to "hump",,and hope you are NOT scared of needles. yes hubby lived in the barracks,,,his room sometimes had 3 sometimes had 2.  after we were married of course he was in base housing with me.  the "brown baggers (the married)" had a room that all of them shared.  honestly i didnt see where the infantry was all that much different than from others,,other than the obvious,,you were in the field vs. in the office.

  5. Different then POGs? Well you work longer hours, have to deploy more often, and have harder training. As a single Marine you will live in the barracks with anywhere from one to three other room mates depending on what unit you are with. After your time at MCRD you will go to Camp Pendleton for training at the School of Infantry. After that you will more then likely be stationed on Pendleton with an infantry unit. Classically infantry units are deployed for 7 months, home for 11 or less, then it's back out. Every now and then you'll spend 7 months on a boat. You will do a lot of humps, a lot of PT, and spend a lot of time sleeping in the dirt. You aren't really sh*t in an infantry unit until you're a Staff NCO.  It's hard work, not for everyone, but my husband wouldn't do anything else.

  6. Ooh Rah 03 Infantry.  You need to become a Marine First.  Life as a GRUNT, you will live close to your fellow Devil Dogs, if you become one.  2/3 Marine Rooms for E-3 and Below, Corporal you may get your own room if a squad leader, more than sure when you make Sergeant.  Get use to living out of a SEA BAG or an ILBE PACK.
