The Robur head coach is pragmatic about the impending loss of their top striking talent to bigger and richer clubs; but holds no regrets over the eventual sale.
The future of the former Inter Milan youth star has been under constant speculation and the striker has been linked with the cream of the Italian football. There has been interest in the services of the striker from many clubs and AS Roma, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan, Juventus
and AC Milan have all been named as potential suitors for the services of the striker.
Furthermore, the striker is also part of a co-ownership deal which is held between Siena and Genoa. Destro played for the Robur in the last campaign, and the striker flourished under the tutelage of Giuseppe Sannino. Destro scored 12 times for the Robur,
and his season under the guidance of Sannino was enough for the top Italian clubs to be alerted to his services.
Siena had the option of exercising a transfer of 50 per cent of the player’s rights. This means that any deal for the player would have to go through the consent of the two clubs, which complicates matters.
Serse Cosmi, the newly appointed coach of the Robur, was realistic over the sale of their burgeoning star, and he was talking to the Corriere dello Sport. He went on to state that the striker has many good attributes which makes him a great attacking threat.
He mentioned that the striker’s fate is to be at a big club, and sooner or later a big club will swoop in for the Azzurrini striker.
Cosmi went on to state:
“Destro has done some important things. I can only speak well of him. He is a complete attacker and he has football inside of him. We all know that Destro is destined to play on the big stages, but I don’t know where that will be.”
Cosmi went on to state that the worst that could happen to the striker would be that he remains at the club and is coached by him, however, Cosmi also stated that he had told Destro on how fortunate he has been. He further commented:
“Anyhow, Mattia is fortunate as I’ve already told him that if the worst happens then he will still be coached by me…”
