Life decisions, are we our own authors?

Well lets start here, have you ever heard the phrase "pursue what your passionate about"? Or even "if your good at something make it a career"?

I am 21 years old and I started playing soccer when i was 19. ( I mean I picked up my first soccer ball at 19, I never played soccer before). By 20, I was playing at the semi-pro level with my first organized team (sweet)! Before I turned 21, I had a pretty bad Groin pull mid way through the season, which forced me to miss the final cup games. I currently play for a Div. 3 team in Columbia, MD and think this is my time to shine. But the last game I believed to have aggravated my groin again. I really want to take soccer to point where I can get paid to play and train, but for some reason the cards are not in my hand to play. I am not passionate about anything else, school, work etc.

I want to be the best on that pitch and one day tell my story.....

Do you really believe that we control our own destiny??

If not, or if so elaborate please....thanks!

  1. "Man, Master of His Destiny," O. M. Aivanhov,

"They Call Me Coach," John Wooden, and

    "Freakonomics," S. Levitt.

Controlling your destiny is like living in a bubble; within it, you do; outside certain boundaries, you are subject to impersonal laws.  For example, take care of your body....

  2. There are many things in life that are beyond your control.  Pursuing your passion does not mean your dream will come true.  You may need to adapt your ideals a bit.  For instance, maybe you don't become a celebrity athlete.  You can still have a fulfilling, rewarding career built on your soccer skills.

  3. I believe our future is already set, but our decisions can result in detours. It could be that your passion for soccer is meant to be spent in developing the passion and commitment in other people - like a young team that you can help bring into competitive play-offs. Remember those who can't, teach...and teachers shine from the rewards of others. Good luck!

  4. Yes. If you believe in Karma Yoga.
