  1. I live in Calgary, Alberta.....why don't you google Grande Prairie and Grande Cache (correct spellings).  If I had to move to either I would pick Grand Prairie.  Both are in northern Alberta.  Grand Prairie is a nice little city, has all of the services you need, plus it has an airport.  Grande Cache is smaller.

Type those cities into the search bar on Google and see what you come up with.

  2. Grande Prairie is a city of around 60,000 people.  It's a fairly expensive place to live with all the oil and gas activity in the area.  Services and shopping are on par with much larger cities to the south - just without the crowds.  Commercial air service is available in GP, as well as Greyhound bus service.

Grande Cache is about two hours south of Grande Prairie, and is located on the edge of the Canadian Rockies.  The town is surrounded by mountains and the scenery is wonderful.  Many people who move to Grande Cache consider the town a little isolated (the closest town to GC is Hinton - 145km to the south).  The population of Grande Cache is close to 4000.  Services can be a little limited especially for someone moving here from a larger centre.  But Grande Prairie is only two hours away and many of us drive there for our shopping.  Rents are rather high; for a house you could be looking at $1000-1500 and up.  Condos aren't much cheaper.  Housing prices tend to be a bit on the high side, but single family homes are available from just over $200,000 (the lower priced ones may need some work).  There is a bus service available to connect the town with both Grande Prairie and Hinton.

Feel free to contact me through my profile if you've got any more questions about Grande Cache (or even Grande Prairie).

  3. $20/hour is enough for a single person but would be tough to raise a family on that.  Jobs are plentiful so husband shouldnt have a problem picking up something in short order.   Grande Praire is the largest of the two and has much better airline connections in and out.   That said Grande Prairie is still a pretty small town.

This is northern alberta... it gets cold in the winter but lots of sunshine.  http://www.grandeprairie.com/index.php
