Question:

Life in Scotland.....?

Hi all!

Me and my bf would like to move from Italy to Scotland (we're both Italians)

We're a bit concerned about the job situation and life style. He's a web designer (and will be an engineer in 3 yrs) while I've got a PhD in English Literature. Does anybody know what kind of job opportunities are there? Are the Scots nice people and is it easy to make friends with them?

Thank you!

  1. People are really friendly!

But might find difficult to adjust with the accent!

Plus i'm sure you'll find a job with a PhD in Eng. Lit.!

  2. LOL depends where you go but mostly no.

Taxes here are horrable your taxed 24% of your wadge.

Webdesigner is what im aiming for so about 39k before tax.

U wana be a english teacher? BE prepared for the worst at scotlands schools.

Theyll be a good banter aslong as your not english lol

and your probaly more likley to get assaulted tere compared to italy.

  3. Hi

being a true Scottish person myself (yeah! =]) I can tell you that Scottish people are mostly easy to get along with. Being able to speak 2 languages fluently will increase your chances of finding a job here. Are you interested in teaching at a school or college perhaps? It depends where you want to live in Scotland as well, places like Edinburgh are VERY expensive to buy/rent accomodation in but there are lots of smaller towns and cities which are much cheaper. If you have MSN e-mail me your address if you would like to chat more about living here :)

  4. Yes job opportunities are good if you have qualifications...

And Scotland is just as cosmopolitan a place as anywhere in Europe.

But why would you want to move here if you don't already know about it?

  5. Ireland is nicer. It has a better history, the people are friendly north and south and the North is one of the most upandcoming places in Europe.

  6. It's a VERY friendly place! You'll love it. But not the weather...
