Question:

Life in the FBI?

My friend enlisted in the Marine Corps out of high school back in 1999. After two nasty deployments to Iraq, he attended Penn State where he studied Electrical Engineering. Turning down several high paying defense contractor jobs, he moved back home to Poughkeepsie, NY to be close to his parents and work at IBM. While he is a hard worker and absolutely a blast to be around, we could all tell the daily grind at IBM was driving him crazy. He completed the application for the FBI and I guess has already made it through a few rounds of the process. A computer whiz with military combat experience, an engineering background, the ability to read and write Chinese, and speak Mandarin and Cantonese. Go figure.

I guess my real question is should he get a job with the Feds, will he drop off the map again? His time in the Marines almost killed his mom. Do special agents get enough time off to visit home? Will the stresses of the job keep him from ever getting married?

  1. Before you accept or sign in that field stop and think. Your enemy is nothing more like you.

  2. Its my guess that your friend will probably be assigned to Homeland Security or a special assignment to the NSA, especially with the background he has.  I seriously doubt he will be assigned to a field position, there are plenty of gents for these positions, but highly skilled individuals such as your friend will be used in areas that best suit the bureau.

Working for the federal government is a great career, has excellent benefits, travel if you want it and most of the time when you don't want it, especially if your friend is single, married has a different tune, in some cases, depending on where his skills are needed.

Being on deployment with the Marines in a combat zone can be very hectic on loved ones back home, but since he has already spent his "time in h**l", he will probably not be assigned to any hot zones, but could be assigned to a foreign embassy.

If he wants to establish himself in the bureau, he should put off getting married for the first three years, this will give him time to adjust to his circumstances, and get the feel for his job and whats required of him, and to also earn promotions, then after he is well established, he might consider getting married, and there are lots of beautiful and highly intelligent female agents that are also single in the bureau.

Thats about all I can say regarding this and tell him Good Luck and Semperfi

  3. usually the FBI requires a minimum of a bachlers degree but who knows due to your friends training there may be an exception.
