Life in water?

I remember having read a book in which an experiment was conducted with three mice.

Mouse 1 was put in a jar without a lid

Mouse 2 was put in a jar filled with water

Mouse 3 was put in a jar filled with water which had a high amount of oxygen dissolved in it.

At the end of the experiment which was after about five minutes, mouse 1 and mouse 3 were still alive but mouse 2 was dead.

My question is, was the article in the book a hoax or true.

If it is, could anyone direct me to a site where I can read more on such an article?

It was in the movie Abyss. It's not a hoax & mouse 2 died because it had a lack of oxygen. If you had taken 5 more minutes, then mouse 3 would also die. Nothing paranormal, it's only normal.

Enough oxygen could not be dissolved in water to sustain a terrestrial creature. How ever studies have been done using a silicon oil, as a blood substitute, and also as a deep diving substitute for air.

Mice have been submerged in it for extended periods, and survived unscathed. A major drawback is the fact that it is considerably heavier than air, and places a major strain on the diaphragm, and consequently the heart during normal respiration.
