  1. If the policy is more than 2 years old and there aren't any crimes involved in the death then a few weeks.

If the policy is less than 2 years old then there will be an investigation to make sure there was not any misrepresentation during the application process.  This can take several months and depends on how quickly the beneficiary and the claims department work to get each other the information they need.

  2. You need to contact the Insurance Company and let them know of the passing of your kin.  They required a death certificate and a form I had to fill out.

If its through your work, contact your HR department asap.

  3. It's 2-3 weeks.

  4. I've seen death claims take up to 8-10 weeks to process.  It just depends on how accurate your paperwork is and how efficient the carrier is.  You could see it in 2 weeks or 2 months.

  5. There is also one other factor no one mentioned.  Cause of death can cause a claim to be held up.  If it was an accident or murder or something that requires some authority to investigate, it can take a long time.  Also if the policy is less than 2 years old, it is contestable, which means the company will check medical records to make sure the application was completed properly and if they are indeed liable for the claim.  You would be better off talking to an agent or the company to see what is going on.
