Life on a cruiser or destroyer?

I now have an idea what life on a carrier is like. As they say, its basically a floating city but as Destroyers are smaller....not too sure about cruisers...they seem huge, does it have like a scaled down version of everything a carrier has slash the flight deck and more guns.

  1. Just curious how you have an idea about life on a carrier?

Destroyers and cruisers are the same, smaller everything but much more work as far as when you go to general quarters, they also rock & roll or pitch more. Carriers don't rock as much. They make much better port calls than carriers do since they can enter more ports than a carrier.

They sometimes do more duties than a carrier... more duties such as patrolling the waters of the Caribbean looking for drug dealers or pirates... they also are part of the carrier battle group providing protection from other ships, aircraft and submarines. One good cruiser has more firepower than most small nations....

Still curious how you think you know carrier life... unless you've lived it (not a tiger cruise or a documentary on a carrier)

  2. Destroyers & cruisers are similar in size and have similar resources.  They will not have many things you could find on a cruiser, or will have scaled down versions.  We have crew sizes of around 300 (if we're lucky... most are under-manned these days) while carriers boast closer to 5,000 with the air wing onboard.  There is one wardroom & one mess decks (vice 3 or 4 for carriers).  There is a small medical unit run by a chief, instead of a floating-hospital with doctors.  CRUDES will not have a chaplain embarked.  We also rock and roll a lot more in high seas.  From the operational side, we live to support the carrier (or big-deck amphib).  We defend the high-value unit so that they can conduct flight ops or whatever else their mission is.  CRUDES ships are much more capable of air/surface/subsurface defense, and are geared towards missions/weapons capabilities whereas a carrier revolves around its air wing.

  3. quarters are smaller, more hot racking, and if you can deal with it a way smaller crew so everyone knows everyone's business

  4.   I heard  it's great duty. Small quarters, but great food, the bad part is when it's  your time in the barrel. or they tell you to check the wheels on the ship from the deck.
