  1. No.  Life requires liquid water.  While it is possible that life could exist on mars, Finding ice proves nothing.  Life could exist on Mars under the following circumstances.

    1. Life developed during the period of time that Mars had Oceans.

    2. As the surface dried and cooled, life migrated into the crust around natural hot spots that had heat and water.

    3.  These hot spots  and their water would still have to exist.

Unfortunately the core of that planet appears to be dead.  Hot spots are unlikely.  Even if they did exist, the Martian life would be microbial.

  2. It is highly likely that life WAS, IS, or is to come.

  3. maybe some microorganisms... even lots of animal can live in extreme condition on earth... why not mars?

  4. i thought life could live on it until a minute ago when yahoo said the soil may be toxic.

  5. It could still be very possible for life to have existed there, or maybe even still exist underground in the form of microbes or subterranian lifeforms. It may not be like the lifeforms we know of here on earth due to the overall differences in atmosphere, soil, and water composition, but life is life and here on earth it has been found thriving in the most unexpected of environments; and we're still discovering new lifeforms here on earth. Just how there are many different types of environments and ecosystems here on earth where only certain lifeforms can exist within specific environments and ecosystems, I don't see why that same aspect can't be applied to other planets as well. So I think it's still a possibility.

  6.   There is no proof of water on mars, the only life that will ever be on mars is if we go there.

  7. Ice on Mars only means water.  You still need carbon to create life, which they have not looked for - yet.

At this point the question is more like - "Can Mars support our lives?"

Once that answer is "Yes!", then can we figure out what lifeforms may Mars have given rise to.

  8. My opinion hasn't changed.  We knew about ice decades ago.  We've known about various toxins for a couple years.  The new announcement just means that asparagus won't grow there.  I'd be amazed if we found martian life, and that life could not cope with a bit of toxic salt.  Life on Earth has figured out how to put up with all kinds of nonsense.

I still expect some sort of life to be found on Mars.  I expect to be disappointed by finding out that it is related to life on Earth.  It will be mostly underground.

  9. it could very easily be possible.Life doesnt have to follow certain rules,Or rules as we know them.

  10. I just recently read that the soil on Mars is not as life friendly as scientists thought. So it is leaning towards no life.

  11. Yes. Maybe bacteria.
