Question:

Life validated by media?

Looking for the term, either a single word or even a concept promoted in a fairly recent book? for when people value an experience more highly when they see it replayed on media--TV, newspapers, etc. For instance, if I were to win a prize it would be good, but if the win was on the 6:00 news it would be more exciting, even though the value of the prize remains the same. Some people only believe an experience is true if it is reported by another or if evidence can be found in archival records. I might tell someone about an animal behavior I know of, but they would only believe me if I say "I saw it on TV."
