  1. activate your pools emergency action plan.alert other lifeguards that a victim has a possible head, neck, or back injury in addition o and other problems identified. the other lifeguards will preform their responsibilities as indicated in the EAP for head neck and back injuries. these responsibilities may include

    1. providing back up coverage

    2. clearing the water of patrons

    3. getting the backboard

    4. summoning EMS personnel by calling 911 or the local emergeny number.

then you would asses the victims condition. determine if the victim's condition has changed (if he is unconcious then it oobviously has). Then safely enter the water. if teh victim is near the wall minimize water movement by using the slide in technique. if a running entry is used slow down before reaching the victim.

now you would preform an appropriate rescue. Swim to the victim to make contact and use an in-line stabilization technique to minimize the movement of the victims head, neck, and back. use an appropriate in-line stabilization technique based on their location and whether or not they are face up or face down.

since the victim is unconscious look for movement and check for normal breathing for no more then 10 seconds. if there are no signs of life, immediately remove the victim from the water using a backboard

**if a second lifeguard is available to asist, he or she can check for vitals while the first maintains in-line stabilization. if the victim is not breathing or shows no signs of life, immediately remove the victim from the water using the two person removal technique.

once out of the water use personal protective equipment, such as disposable gloves and breathing barriers. preform your initial assessment and preform rescue breathing and CPR or first aid if needed. continue to monitor victim until emergency EMS personnel arrive. minimize shock by keeping the victim from getting chilled or overheated. administer emergency oxygen, if available and trained to do so. if the victim vomits, tilt the backboard on its side to help clear the vomit from the victims mouth.

    HOPE THIS WAS DETAILED ENOUGH!

  2. First thing first you need to alert other guards in the area of the spinal emergency, as the primary guard you first concern is for the spinal injury, however if the victim is face down and unconcious you now have to worry about a life threating injury with no oxygen getting into the victims lungs.  Upon reaching the victim I would place him either a head splint, or the head chin support (whichever is most comfortable and appropriate for the situation) and start to walk the pool to allow the victims body to rise and make backboarding easier.  During the notification of the emergency the facilitys EAP (emergency action plan) should have been started so there should be at least one more guard in the water with you with the backboard, someone calling 911 and others doing crowd control.  Once the victim is securely on the backboard they will be transported to an area near a wall where one guard will hold in-line stabilization while the other guard secures the backboard straps and head immoblizer.  Once all straps are tight and secure and the head immoblizer is in place the victim is then taken out of the water and placed on the deck where all vital signs will be checked, if rescue breathing needs to be done,  then start rescue breathing.  If the victim is not breathing then as part of EAP an AED (automated external defibulator) should have been retrived, while adminstering rescue breahs or CPR (depending on the victim adult/child and situation) another guard should begin drying off the victim to hook up the AED.  Move victim away from puddled water and activate the AED, until EMTs or further advanced medical traing arrives.  If victim is conscious you would moniter vital signs until EMT or further advanced medical personel would arrive.

  3. i would first get him out of the water because he would not be able to roll onto his back and then remove everyone from the area, then i would get some help. I would try the usual DRABC and put him in a neck brace, try to keep everything as quiet as possible and people as far away to cause minimal stress, call and ambulance and put him on one a stretcher with back support, check if he is responding, clean up any head wounds and check his pulse about every 2 - 3 minutes until the ambulance arrives, they will most probably take him to the hospital and get him x-rayed then treat him for whatever he has injured

  4. Clear the area.

uhh...I dunno what i'd do next

  5. Treat this as a spinal injury and begin backboard procedures
