Lifeguarding question?

Question

Does the company I get my lifeguarding license with have to own the pool I'm going to work at? I want to work at a pool ownded by sweetwater, but I got my license with Texas Aquatic Enterprises....since it's a red-cross certified license, can I work anywhere? Or only pools that company owns? Thanks

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification is widely recognized both in the USA and abroad.  It may be the most widely recognized Lifeguard training anywhere.

HOWEVER, it is not universally recognized and not all employers will accept that for hiring.  Some places have contracts with private lifeguard-training providers like Ellis & Associates, and these often have insurance implications.  In cases like that the employer may require that anyone they hire have a specific certification from a specific agency; like Ellis.  

You would need to check with each prospective employer and find out their specific requirements.

Because you are Red Cross Certified you can really lifeguard at any pool, its just a different company that trained you and lifeguard training is pretty much standard where ever you go... so as long as you are certified to guard you can work any any pool.... It is also up to the company that owns the pool to see if they want to also send you to their company to get additional certification... but being certified by the red cross means that you can guard any pool so most likely they wont make you get another certification..... so in the end as long as you are Red Cross Certified you can guard any pool
