I want to lift my chevy 99' 1500 2wd v6 because it's alot lower than most of the f 150's, idk y it is so low but i know the back is a little higher than the front. i went to one of my local truck lifting shops and they said it would be around $1000 for a 3" suspension lift. is that a good price? iv also heard of a block lifting kit but i have no idea what the difference is and if there is any other ways to lift my truck. help on info? if there is how many inches do they lift and how much do they cost and what are the pros and cons of the diff types of lifting.

thanks

  1. If they're quoting you an installed price , it sounds pretty good. If they do it they should also have the experience to do it right.

Check web sites for Skyjacker, Rancho and also look through an issue of 4 Wheel Drive mag.

  2. the blocks I believe you are talking about a body lift. relatively simple but does nothing for the ride or suspension performance of your vehicle. will still raise center of gravity and cause more body roll and easier roll-over but will not give any more ground clearance. the 3" lift kit would change major Suspension components to provide higher ride height with more clearance at center of chassis. still higher center of gravity and body roll and will cause more dive and squat during braking and acceleration slowing acceleration and increasing stopping distance. Why does it matter that it is lower than F-150s? do you need the added height? if not sounds like you might be better off with stock.

  3. You should be able to get a torsion bar adjustment and an add a leaf kit for much cheaper than that. it will lift the truck a couple of inches and in most cases level the truck out for a sportier look.  There are two types of block lift kits, body lifts and suspension blocks. Body lifts add body to ground clearance but not chassis to ground clearance.  They also allow for larger tires. they are cheap (only a couple hundred dollars) and do allot for the appearance.  The suspension blocks add a block onto the leaf springs and lengthen the u-bolts that hold them together and to lift the front they replace almost the whole steering assembly which can be very pricey. if looks are the only issue i would search google for a good leveling kit which raises the front of your truck to solve the misporportion issue. it also only cost a couple hundred dollars.  feel free to contact me if u have n e more questions because i have studied that kind of thing allot and enjoy helpin people with their rigs

  4. The 2wd does not have tortion bars only the 4wd's do. If you want to just bring up the front get a coil spacer if you are looking for ground clearence. The 2wd trucks are alot easier to put lifts on. 4wheel part has the leveling kit for your truck the 1"-1.5" is $42 and the 2"-2.5 is $130. As far as going higher if you want to spend that kind of money for a suspension lift you can. Yes a suspension lift is better to get, but if you want to just clear bigger tires a body lift is the way to go. The 3" body lift for your truck is $377 from www.4wheelparts.com.

The reason why they are lower then the Ford's is because they have a better ride quality.
