  1. Make SURE the switch if turned off. Use some rubber handed needle nose pliers and unscrew what is left of the bulb.  Make SURE the switch is off or it could be dangerous. The electical current is still going to the bulb even iif it is broken, that is why to turn the switch off. Best to let an adult do this.

  2. If this is a lamp, unplug it, and then use the towel and pliers suggestion to remove the bulb.

If this is a wall or ceiling light that you can't unplug, turn off the light switch and STOP! Wait for an adult to return.

The only sure way to make the light safe before removing the bulb is to turn off the breaker or remove the fuse that supplies that light.  When your parents return, they might want to show you how to turn off the breakers (or remove a fuse) - but don't go exploring on your own.  There is a very real chance of electrocution, and I'm certain your parents would rather come home to a dark house, than a dark house and you dead!

To everyone that posted advising a child of unknown age to go poking in a potentially hot light fixture and breaker panel -- What the #$*% are you thinking?!?!?

  3. Turn the light switch off and get a towel so you don't cut your hand and take the broken base out of the socket.  If you can't get a good hold with the towel, a pair of long nosed pliers will work.    Don't use a potato.

  4. Hi, No problems, when its day light preferbly isolate the power to the source, not the switch but at the fuse board if you are not sure turn it all off. Once you are sure its isolated the best way is to use a pair of pliers and grip the metal part around the bulb, either push and turn if its bayonet type or unscrew if its edison type.If this does not work you may have to change the fitting, email me and I will assist if you like.

  5. If you have a breaker, turn off power to the room in question and be sure to make sure the switches to the light are off, just in case.  Next, use a pair of long-nosed pliers to grasp the bottom of the wires sticking out (but if there is any bulb left, do your best to grip this) and slowly turn the bulb out.  It would also be a good idea to be wearing gloves as you do this, because the wires and filament are VERY sharp.  Good luck!

  6. age old trick..... use a potatoe to get a bulb end out...... just stick it on there and turn. Please make sure the power is off...
